best therapist in los angeles amy mcmanus

Hi, I’m Amy.

I am passionate about helping people in Los Angeles who are stuck in a cycle of unhealthy behaviors, feelings or relationships, to find ways to create the healthy, happy lives they deserve!

Here’s where I tell you all about me so you can decide if I will be able to help you.

That seems fair– you want to know that if you work with me you won’t be wasting your time. You’ve probably already tried several other things– could be self-help books, confiding in a friend, or even talking to another therapist. Those methods haven’t helped enough and you are ready to find something that really makes a difference!

Let me tell you about the clients I tend to have the most success helping, so that you can decide if we might be a good fit.

The clients who are most successful in therapy with me are the ones who are ready for a change, and who are willing to work to make it happen. Therapy isn’t always fun or even easy– often things get harder before they get better. This is because we become more aware of all the ways we have been doing the same thing over and over, before we are able to change it as much as we would like. Eventually the change does come, but the period before that can be tough. My successful clients believe that the end goal of having better relationships and being able to better manage their moods is worth the hard work.

My clients appreciate my straightforward approach.  I will call you out if you try to just talk around the problem (I know you know what I mean…). I will not just smile and nod; I will challenge you to be your best! I will give you tools to use and I will help you clarify and achieve your goals. I want you to feel better and be on the path to living the life you want and deserve!

Oh, and we will laugh. Life is challenging, but also full of humor!

And now for the technical stuff…

What Is My Training?

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Stanford University, and a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles. In order to get my Marriage and Family Therapy license I did over 3000 hours of training in schools and clinics all over the Los Angeles area, and then passed two rigorous exams. I stay up to date on the latest research and techniques by attending conferences and trainings provided by professional organizations such as The Milton Erickson Foundation.  I have done additional training in hypnotherapy, NLP, and gender and sexuality issues.  I am a member of CAMFT (California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists) and AAMFT (American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists). I have not only worked with teens and their families, but I have also raised four of my own children, who are now all in their 20's.  I can relate to teens, young adults and their families from both sides of the couch!

In my spare time I love to ride my bicycle. The photo above is one I took on the bike path at Dockweiler State Beach.
