You Finally Made It - Or Did You?
You graduated, got a good job, an apartment, a car. Your Insta looks amazing—friends, travel, partying! Everyone thinks you've got it all going on, but secretly you worry that they’ll figure out the truth—you have no idea where you’re headed right now. Everyone else in Los Angeles seems so confident, but you are tormented by anxiety about your future. You wonder- "Why do I feel so anxious and confused? What is my next step? How do I have the life and relationships I really want?"
For most of your life everything was pretty straightforward- do well in school, maybe pursue a sport, music, or a hobby, and when you graduate everything will fall into place. Except it didn't. Maybe the job didn't turn out to be as wonderful as it sounded, maybe you miss having time and energy for sports or hobbies, maybe it was a lot easier to have a relationship in college, without the pressures you have in your life right now. Suddenly you have fond memories of those annoying dorm mates- you never realized how lonely it could be to live on your own in Los Angeles. All those shots of you laughing at the beach, or day-drinking with your friends at the Bungalow, don’t tell the real story of life in Los Angeles…
You've been adulting for a while now, and are beginning to wonder why it just doesn't feel that rewarding. Even those crazy Saturday nights- the ones you can't quite completely remember- aren't as much fun as they used to be. Is this what you’ve worked so hard for?
Is This All There Is?
NO!!! "Adulting" doesn't need to be a grind! Even though the responsibility can be heavy sometimes, you can celebrate the freedom of adulting by defining it in your own terms.
This is the time of your life when you look at where you’ve been heading and reassess. This is normal. You are right where you are supposed to be, even though it sometimes feels like shit. (therapy expression—I went to grad school for that) Therapy will help you take a step back and re-evaluate what is working and what isn't.
You will get tools to manage the stress, and to communicate with the people who are important to you. You can clarify your goals, and create a plan to reach them. My clients create goals in the first session and right away begin on the path to creating the unique life that will bring them joy and meaning. I think you’re ready.
Your story is just beginning…
